Love me my Luna ... sometimes ... when she is in a good mood at least.

Superb photo and succinct description. You are a minimalist and a wordsmith.

there's a tiny stem rising from the tree line, holding the moon aloft on it.

Not sure why I thought of this - well, because it is a moon story. First of all, I love the moon on a stem, wonderful.... I was studying art in Italy MANY years ago. My little group of friends befriended a guy whose family had an incredibly little villa in small town outside of Florence. We were there for Thanksgiving dinner. In the evening, the moon rose an incredible orange-yellow color over the hills and trees. I called everyone up to see- come up and see this, its incredible I yelled. Everyone came up, but no one had the response I thought was appropriate. They all said, oh, the moon, is that what you wanted to show us? I was a bit dumbfounded.. yes, the moon, but not just the moon THIS moon, THIS night, THIS color...get it? They didn't quite. It was a moment of profound learning for me..... thanks for calling the memory to surface- and for the loveliness of your words and vision as well!

valerianna i'm very grateful that you were able to share this very personal memory here. it's often so hard to express the moment of sight and especially the moment of insight in such a way as to make it meaningful to others. you're very fortunate and now so are we! steven

ellen - thankyou. i watched this unfold and took several photographs as each moment it changed of course. i'm looking to the skies for some sort of direction. there's lots of roiling and rumbling, tumbling and folding. steven
