the weather in houston, texas

i trudged eight kilometres home through the results (or side-effects) of a "texas low" tonight. some might see that as one of those exercises that "if it doesn't kill ya, it makes ya stronger". yeah right!

here's the weather in the place of origin of the aformentioned "texas low".

thursday jan. 8 sunny high 24 c low 11c

friday jan. 9 sunny high 24c low 14c
now this might seem petty, but how come the warm and sunny . . . especially the warm part . . . doesn't go with the "texas low"?

Doesn't seem 'fair' somehow, does it, Steven? We are experiencing a most unusual January thus far.

The official low temp this morning was 35 - high somewhere in the mid 60's, I think. Yesterday, I don't think we got out of the 40's all day long - gray with some rain - not atypical of any January in Houston, actually. Dismal and dreary. Tomorrow we might approach the record high of 80 degrees ... I'm talking Fahrenheit here. For the upcoming weekend, the fear-mongers are already warning of the possibility of freezing precipation. If that occurs, it'll wreak havoc with our roadways. We have, I believe, literally hundreds of miles of overpasses in the Houston area, ALL of which ice over at the seeming drop of a hat.

Many people are sick. Not I, thank goodness! Up/down, up/down, up/down with the temperatures. Ludicrous! And now, over in the Northwest - Oregon and the like, they're experiencing flooding conditions with unusually warm weather melting all of the snow accumulated thus far. Rooftop shoveling of the 'heavy' snow is absolutely mandatory.

Makes no sense at all! At least you're somewhat constant with your frigid temperatures ... gotta look for the silver lining wherever you can find it, right?

If I've done my calculations correctly, you walked 4.96 miles to get home?!?!? Unbelievable! Buy your colleague some more carbon offsets, OK? Do you have cleats that you can attach to your footwear? My goodness, Steven! I remember those days well. Don't want to remember them, but I do!!

(BTW, I added your weather site to my media folder.)

well the temperature inconsistency and the resultant sickness is really too bad. it's so hard for people's bodies to adapt to change like that and their immune systems just get swamped. yuck! that's tough.

4.96 miles- yeah i checked that and it looks like you're right! it's actually really useful for me as it allows me to take a bit of a run at clearing my head of the day and preparing for the home scene and then also for the planning for the following day. it takes about and hour and a quarter - or more depending on the weather!
