images of mars' surface

i love the images pouring in from mars. like huge abstract paintings, these images describe a landscape that has endured considerable change through a range of forces not unknown to earth.

this makes me think of the mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. A fantastic, if substantial read, and highly focussed on the changes the martian landscape undergo.

i'm intrigued by the possibility of terraforming: the reconstituting of the martian atmosphere followed by its becoming a watery planet once more.
i'm intrigued by the evidence that it once was watery. i'm intrigued by the lovely sandy textures that it shares in common with our own planet.
i'm intrigued to live in a time where such experiences and ideas are commonplace.
