yasmin sethi designs

i’d like to share some really clever design ideas today from the creative genius of yasmin sethi. yasmin’s ideas hover in that lovely interstice between the practical and truly out-of-the-box thinking that characterizes really insightful and transformative design. my own view on design is that it should not just enhance your environment or life but offer a transformative experience that takes you or anyone observing it, out of the commonplace thereby altering your understanding and expectations of your world. yasmin’s work does just that.

first of all, here is a proposal for an exquisite bracelet watch . . .
i love the simplicity of the design
and could easily see this being provided in a variety of colours with a retractable usb jack to sync it with my ical. that way key times and events on any given day might be backlit with colour coded reminders or even brief text hints like “meeting” ”dinner” or whatever. i could also see it being designed with led lights to make it glow at night.

the alice chess set is another inspired concept in which the playing pieces turn transparent upon contact with the board revealing the players inside. remove them from the board and they become opaque having lost their role, their power, and their place on the board!! yasmin states on her webpage that she is currently looking for work. someone out there hire her on and make these ideas a reality!!!
