out there

the world is changing so quickly that was recently the edge is now just left of centre. readily accessible if you have the guts, the money, or the ability, here are some tiny pieces of your world.

the bugatti veyron - the antithesis of all that is green, intelligent, sensible - but fascinating all the same in its single-minded dashing of all that into the ground through the audacity of its designers. watch the veyron get driven to its top speed of 407 kph.

photo manipulation technology is moving along nicely - a really outstanding idea that is now reality is hyperlinked images - assembled by a web crawler that scours the web for images and then gathers them together in one spot from which point this software does its thing. check this out at photosynth.

wingsuits - i first saw this at the banff film festival when it passed through town two or three years ago.

here's the skinny: "basejumpers wearing wingsuits fly inches from the walls of mountains. wingsuit flying is the art of flying the human body through the air using a special jumpsuit, called a wingsuit, that shapes the human body into an airfoil which can create lift. the wingsuit creates the airfoil shape with fabric sewn between the legs and under the arms. a wingsuit can be flown from any point that provides sufficient altitude to glide through the air, such as skydiving aircraft or base jumping exit points. the flier will deploy a parachute at a planned altitude and unzip the arm wings so they can reach up to the parachute control toggles and fly to a normal skydiving or base jumping landing."
